​To minimise risk of introduction of disease in Mauritius thought import of live animals and animal origin; respect all export conditions impose by the importing country.

Vision:  To attained zero risk of introduction of diseases.

Functions

• Registration of all importers and ensure that all necessary information required is submitted prior to processing any import permit.

• Further to decisions taken during SPS committees, to work on import conditions for approved commodities which are considered to be of low risk.
• To establish communication with Veterinary Competent Authorities of trading countries to ease trade and be up to date with animal health status in these countries.
• Gather all necessary information pertaining to imports/ export before disseminating it to all SPS subcommittee  members for comments prior to SPS Committee .
  
  
• Signing of recommendation letters for import of VMPs which have been approved in VMP committee.
• Inspection and registration of isolation facilities.
• Inspection and registration of cold/chill rooms and warehouse facilities.
• Issue import permits for importation of live animals and products of animal origins into Mauritius.
• Ensure that necessary documents are submitted prior to issuing clearances for feed additives.
• Issue Movement permits from Rodrigues to Mauritius
• Conducting VMP committees and following up with applications for VMPs
