Animal Welfare Unit (AWU)

• Mission: To ensure compliance of animal welfare Act 2013 in Mauritius
• Vision: To extend animal welfare conditions to livestock and other animals.

Main functions  

• Ensure that Animal Welfare Act 2013 and regulations made thereunder are being enforced .

• Ensure that animal welfare is assessed during experimentation and is in line with animal welfare (experiment on animals) regulations 2017.
• Issue animal breeders permit other than dogs , animal trainer permit, dog show permit and pedigree permit
• Carrying welfare audit /inspection in animal holding and breeding facilities.
