Fisheries Management Division
Application for fishing licenses

Licensing of fishing vessels
The licensing unit of the Ministry is responsible for issuing fishing licences to authorise local and foreign fishing vessels to fish in the Exclusive Economic Zone of Mauritius.

Foreign Fishing licences
Fishing licences are issued under a set of conditions and against payment of the appropriate licence fees. Foreign vessels are given licences to practice mainly longline fishing.
Mauritius has Fishing Agreements with the European Union, The Government of Seychelles and the Federation of Japan Tuna Fisheries Co-operative associations (FJTFCA). Under these Agreements, a certain number of licences are issued.

Fishing Licence fees
The licence fee for foreign longline fishing vessels (except for vessels fishing under Fishing Agreements with other countries) is US $ 6000 for an initial period of 90 days and US $ 2000 for any additional 30 days period or part thereof. A deposit fee of US $ 500 is also levied. This fee is refundable upon submission of properly filled logbooks.

Licensing of Mauritian vessels
Different categories of licences are issued to Mauritian vessels, namely: Longline, Semi-industrial chilled fishery, Banks fishing, Purse seining and Trawling. Any new entrant into any of the fisheries must first submit a project proposal to the Ministry. Licences are issued after the approval of the project.
